Im Blushing Eddie, thankyou!;

"I want to make work that isn't contrived with constricting conventions or tradition, that captures ceramic anomalies of colour and texture. The further I am from imbued meaning, the free-er I am to explore the materials.  Crawling, bubbling, glassy, crazing, lustre, drool, cracking and dry surfaces are all textural elements in my palette of contrasts to create a playful and meaningless existence. They are objects that could not exist without my textural fantasies, and therefore may as well join the decadent fantasy land of unicorns and fairies"

Building upon Bram Bogart's concrete paintings, the works are a conversation of texture and colour, as well as minerals.
 Recognizing that her works are not abstract interpretations of scenarios, McCallum argues that her works are not abstract because they are not representing anything, but are physical examples of materials interacting.
They vary in form to three identifiable categories;
Selfstanding (able to hold itself upright, without prop)
Freeframe (when the clay is allowed to create its own edge without intended interference from the artist)
Wallhanging (when the piece is intended for the wall, to be at eye height)

The continued reference to Unicorns and Vomit, "Spew", is the artists dry humour referring to the chaotic runny quality as seen in Slimy Dwarf and Scabby Galaxy. Yet the fantasy aspect reflects the rejection of traditional Ceramic form. Possibly, in light of recent Australian Government Education funding cuts to Ceramic courses at TAFE instituitions, 'Unicorn' also alludes to general feelings of disconnectedness of the ceramic community to the everyday.
